From the album: Bebo, Chucho & Chuchito Valdés - Dinastia Valdés
One of the most recognized and influential names in Latin Jazz and Cuban music is Valdes. In this 3 CD album, three generations of pianists, bandleaders, composers and arrangers: Bebo Valdes, Chucho Valdes and Chuchito Valdes present their mastery of the piano in each individual performance.
Bebo Valdes was a central figure in the golden age of Cuban music while working with figures such as Rita Montaner, Armando Valdes, Benny More, Pio Leyva and Rolando La Serie. Valdes played a role in the development of the mambo during the 1950s, and developed a rew rhythm to compete with Perez Prado's mambo, called the batanga. He took part in the Panart Cuban jazz sessions. In the late 1950s he recorded with Nat 'King' Cole. The film Calle 54 by Fernando Trueba brought his piano playing to a wide audience. In 2004 he was again filmed by Trueba, in El Milagro De Candeal. Valdes has won five Grammy Awards.
Chucho Valdes founded the group Irakere, one of Cuba's best-known Latin jazz bands. Together with pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Valdes is revered as one of Cuba's greatest jazz pianists. Chucho has won five Grammy awards - one in 1978 for the album Live at Newport by Irakere, a second in 1998 for his contribution to the CD Havana by his band Crisol (formed in 1997), with two songs Mr. Bruce and Mambo para Roy written by Chucho, and the third in 2003 for his album Live at the Village Vanguard.
Chuchito Valdes is the eldest son of a family of five and making a name for himself as a pianist, he has follow the footsteps of his famed father Chucho Valdes and grandfather Bebo Valdes and continues the legacy of great piano players from Cuba. With influences of Caribbean rhythms and jazz, Chuchito creates an exciting and energetic blend of spicy music that drives audiences wild. Herencia, Key Of Latin Jazz and La Timba are three of his most recent albums in the market and under J & N Records.
