What's it like to be a young person trying to start a business in Uganda? Meet two people trying to make it happen.

The north of Uganda suffered a series of internal armed conflicts from the late 1970s, and more recently has seen a huge influx of refugees (almost 200,000) fleeing war and food shortages in neighbouring South Sudan.

Apathy and despondency are common problems amongst refugees, especially among children and young people that have suffered traumatic events.

We support a youth-led social enterprise venture that helps young people in northern Uganda improve their prospects by starting their own businesses.

After an award-winning pilot project in 2013/4, KATI has now been scaled up and established as an independent, youth-led organisation – mentoring young people who have innovative business ideas, and creating a network of young entrepreneurs across northern Uganda .

War Child UK, Youth Business International and Restless Development are working to train and empower young entrepreneurs in Uganda.
