In his latest work, NORTHERN COMFORT, Icelandic director Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson once again demonstrates his knack for quirky Scandinavian humor — and it’s all wrapped up in an English-language comedy about people’s fear of flying. Director Sigurðsson together with Oscar nominee Timothy Spall will talk about this hilarious endeavor.
Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson’s first feature film, EITHER WAY (2011), was screened at festivals around the world and was remade in the United States as PRINCE AVALANCHE, starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch. His second feature film, PARIS OF THE NORTH, was screened at various festivals after its premiere in competition in Karlovy Vary in 2014. UNDER THE TREE premiered in Venice and Toronto in 2017, was the second biggest Icelandic box office hit of the year, and was selected to be Iceland’s entry for the international Oscar. FILMFEST MÜNCHEN is presenting his latest work, NORTHERN COMFORT, in its German premiere.
