Since its introduction the market within South Africa back in 2009, the H1 has created its reputation for being a reliable, affordable and ultimately impressive people mover. Both fleet buyers and families alike have fallen in love with its wealth of practical features and ease of usability.
Now, the widely sold H1 has received a host of new features, but the most notable is its new grille design and more integrated front lights. Apart from the cosmetic changes at the front-end, the H1 now features a new set of alloys and also sports a host of improvements in terms of its interior space and safety systems.
There are several interior configurations available within the H1 line-up. The popular 9-seating arrangement makes for a very comfortable layout and is packed with many creature comforts including cupholders, air-conditioning ventilation and a proper sense of space all around.
The vehicle also features both driver, passenger and curtain airbags, as well as a spattering of safety features. The inclusion of a large intuitive multimedia system at the centre of the dash has become a standard feature and as available throughout the Hyundai South Africa line-up, full voice-guided navigation is made available at a cost of just R2522 and integrates with the system.
As we have come used to within the H1, there are two separate engine variants on offer. The 2.4-litre turbo petrol motor offers 126 kW of power and 224 Nm of torque, with the power driven through a 5-speed manual gearbox. During the launch, I spent time exploring the range-topping and most popular variant, the 2.5-litre turbodiesel with 125 kW of power and a healthy 441 Nm torque, all of which are made available from low within the torque band. The diesel motor makes light work of moving around the large vehicle and sends all of its power through a smooth-shifting 5-speed automatic gearbox.
The H1 remains a firm favourite within its segment. The latest generation adds ‘s further style to the mix and a host of new and impressive features which make it even more of a joy to drive. To top-off, the whole package, Hyundai South Africa have managed to retain pricing from its predecessor and offer their industry-leading manufacturer warranty.
