Cushion cut diamonds and princess cut diamonds are 2 of the most popular fancy cut diamond shapes in the market. In this video, we perform a review of a cushion cut vs princess cut diamond ring under various types of environments. This will provide you with insights to a realistic look in real life.
When it comes to sparkle and scintillation, well cut cushions tend to have broader flashes of light and fire compared to princess shape diamonds. This is because the facets of princess cut diamonds tend to be smaller and their virtual facets would also be tinier.
Both diamonds used in this review are AGS graded and have ideal light performance (000). These 2 have extremely strong looking ASETs and are top notch in their optical performance.
As you can see in the video, both diamonds are extremely lively and full of fire. When you scrutinize details, you will realize that the cushion cut will slightly edge out the princess cut diamond in terms of brightness. This is due to the perceived light return from the pavilion facets of the cushion cut.
In an ideal cut princess diamond like the one in the video, you will see that there is superb edge to edge brightness and the outline is very crisp and well defined. When the diamond is rocked and tilted, light bounces off the facets to give it a defined scintillation patterning.
When it comes to fire, the cushion cut diamond edges out the princess cut and the colored light return is slightly more pronounced. In daylight environments, both diamonds face up white and this is due to their cut quality. The majority of other diamonds in the market will come nowhere close to the optics of these 2 beautifully cut diamonds.
