(20 Oct 2016) Journalists from a suspended opposition newspaper in Hungary have edited a magazine sold by the homeless on the streets of Budapest on Thursday.
Reporters and editors from the left-wing Nepszabadsag, whose suspension earlier this month has raised concerns about media pluralism, wrote articles for Fedel Nelkul ('Without A Roof') and went out to help homeless people selling the biweekly publication and also to talk with buyers about Hungarian media matters.
Nepszabadsag reporter Csilla Urban said they had chosen to help "Without A Roof" partly because their "newsroom has become practically homeless," as well.
In an unexpected move, publishing company Mediaworks announced on the 8th of October it was temporarily shutting down Nepszabadsag because of considerable losses.
Talks between management and journalists about the future of the publication have been inconclusive.
The temporary closure has raised concerns about how succesful the ruling conservative party Fidesz (Hungarian Civil Alliance) has been on "using economic measures to control the media market."
