After repairing & servicing this set...and rebuilding the hum generating power supply to improve the hum...there were two duff electrolytics on this one, it was time to test it. Note that the customer has asked for a new microphone to be provided. Unfortumately, despite spending time on the two meters, I discovered the left hand one has a burnt-out coil & the right hand one has a corroded & jammed mechanism, though it does twitch 3mm when the radio goes into transmit. Now these radios are 40+ years old, I've noticed about 50% of them have duff meters. It must be said that these meters were very cheaply made.
As usual, Mr Chippie drove along our 6-mile 'difficult terrain for radio' test route. He stopped at the 5-mile point & we conducted a static test on low power (less than 400mW on this set).
Our continued thanks to Thunderpole for kindly supplying the T3000 radio we use in the test vehicle at no cost to us. This is the sole reason for the 'paid promotion' flag on this video.
