Lake Isabelle is one of my very favorite places to hike to in Colorado. This magical alpine lake is surrounded by the Indian Peaks, and it is simply spectacular to behold. This is a fantastic hike for those visiting Colorado who are not used to the elevation, because when the road to the trailhead is open (usually mid-June to mid-October), the hike is only four miles roundtrip. On June 11, when I created this video, the road from the Brainard Lake Day Use Area to Long Lake Trailhead where the hike begins was not yet open, so I had to tack on an extra mile road walk each way. However, the road walk was pretty and pleasant. The road to the trailhead should be open by July 1.
Note: as I'm filming this, there is still quite a bit of snow on the trail, as we still tend to have snow in Colorado's high country through June. Be prepared for a bit of postholing (falling through snow) if you visit before July.
In 2021, there is a timed entry system to enter Brainard Lake Recreation Area. You can find more information here: [ Ссылка ]. There is a $12 fee to enter the recreation area if you do not have a National Parks Pass. Usually, you must pay in cash at the gate. However, with the 2021 timed entry system, you must pay online when you make a reservation, and there is an additional $2 service fee to do so.
