The Archbishop of Cantebury, Justin Welby has resigned from his post following a damning report into a prolific child abuser, the late John Smyth who was associated with the Church of England. There are no suggestions that Justin Welby was complicit in these crimes, however when told about it in 2013, nothing was done. Several accusations have been levelled at the Christian church including cover ups of sexual abuse, and scandals. Was it right for Welby to resign? And how much further does the failure of moral authority seep into the institution?
