I spent 2 incredible days filming these Atlantic Bluefin Tuna hunting Garfish (I think there were also Atlantic Saury too - can anyone with more knowledge on fish than me confirm?) off the coast of Devon last week. I made my way down the shoreline 30 minutes before the sun came up hoping they would be there and I was in luck! I estimate there were about 6-8 of them hunting, but there could have been significantly more, it really was quite a sight to witness.
I just want to make it clear, I am in no way against the catch and release of these fish in the UK. I realise the tagging programme implemented by some of the small companies operating particularly in the South West play an integral part in the scientific monitoring of the species. It’s the lack of current regulations and monitoring of the international commercial fishing vessels that sit outside of our protected waters which are the cause for the concern.
Have you ever seen Tuna hunting like this? If so what country are you from and what have you seen!?
