Bangladesh’s Prime Minister has resigned and fled the country amid violent protests calling for her to quit.
Demonstrators reportedly stormed her residence on Monday morning.
Her resignation ends her 15 year tenure as leader.
According to the army, an interm leader will be formed.
Violent anti-government protests erupted over the weekend calling for her to step down, that left nearly 100 dead and hundreds injured.
The daily death toll was the highest of any protest in the country’s recent history.
Student protesters clashed with ruling party activists and police.
Sheikh Hasina accused them of ‘sabotage’.
She has ordered mobile Internet to be cut off and announced an indefinite curfew in a bid to quell the unrest.
She has said that protesters were no longer students but criminals and iron hands should be used to deal with them.
Schools and universities have been closed across the country.
These demonstrations follow protests last month which began with students calling for an end to the quota system for government jobs.
