*****
Arturo Tappin is a smooth jazz and jazz/reggae saxophonist from Barbados. His music straddles the line between jazz and reggae. After formal training at Berklee College of Music, Arturo made his debut in the late 1980s as a leader of his own quintet at the International Barbados/Caribbean Jazz Festival. Arturo is referred to as the smoothest, ‘saxiest’ horn man the Caribbean has to offer – a cross between the Teddy Pendergrass and Kenny G. He has performed with Roberta Flack, Monty Alexander, and on an album by Luther Vandross.
Arturo’s latest release is entitled ‘Inside Out.’ The album is a collection of 15 tracks featuring mostly smooth jazz experiments with Arturo nicely blending several woodwind instruments in the arrangements. His Caribbean roots are well represented with the Rupee hit, ‘Tempted to Touch’ which is given a nice multi-sax treatment. Classic Arturo, that we’ve all come to know and love! The other representation is the song, “Roads.” Arturo uses pizzicato strings to render the reggae strum that is usually played on the guitar. Nice effect! ‘Inside Out’ is an excellent album for your collection. Available on digital online streaming platforms.
