Cherry blossom flowers are ageless and unfailing allegory of the journey of human life. Cherry blossom or Sakura, an embodiment of beauty and mortality is native to Asia and blooms gloriously in the season of spring in Japan, Korea and China but in India, the Himalayan foothills witness the bloom of wild cherry blossoms in autumn.
The annual India international Cherry blossom Festival which started in the year 2016 never fails to document the evanescent days when the city drapes itself in pink.
The festival has raised Meghalaya on a higher pedestal considering the international relations built in the past and the present. The Japanese Ambassador visited 2018’s Cherry Blossom Festival, while last year the Republic of South Korea took part in it.
This year, however, “not so new to us anymore” pandemic that has forced people to stay indoors has also restricted one of the most anticipated festivals from happening this year, however, Sakura couldn’t be stopped from displaying its timeless yet tragically short-lived beauty, much like human existence.
