Hundreds of Buddhists took out a protest rally in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang on Saturday against alleged attempts to tarnish the image of the 14th Dalai Lama.
The protesters demanded strict action against people trying to malign the image of the 14th Dalai Lama. Further, they demanded apologies from news channels and public figures for allegedly tarnishing his reputation.
The pro-Dalai Lama rallies come against the backdrop of a purported video of the Dalai Lama kissing a boy on the lips and asking him to ‘suck his tongue’ which sparked outrage across the world.
Later, the official Twitter handle of the Buddhist monk said that he regrets the ‘hurt’ induced by his words and addressed the apology to the boy in the viral video, his family and ‘friends all over the world’.
The statement added that the Dalai Lama tends to interact with people in a ‘playful and innocent’ manner.
