Firstly, yes you can take your knitting needles through security and knit on a plane.
We've asked a few of the UK's airports for clarification on this issue of needles at security and all the ones we asked bar London Luton said yes, you can take them through security. Please understand however, if security want to take them away for safety reasons, they can.
Make sure you check the AIRPORT that you are flying back from. They may well have different rules.
We do recommend you check your AIRLINE however as we've found some airlines DO NOT allow knitting needles. Ryan Air and Jet 2 for example say on their websites that knitting needles are not allowed. That said, we havn't heard reports of cabin crew actually confiscating knitting needles. So it maybe a case of just going for it when on the plane and seeing what happens.
