Maringá is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Paraná, being a medium-large planned city with recent urbanization. It is the third largest in the state and the seventh in the southern region of Brazil in relation to its population, standing out for the quality of life offered to its residents and for being an important regional road junction. It is considered one of the most wooded and cleanest cities in the country.

Its population, according to IBGE estimates for 2021, was 436,472 inhabitants, and its Metropolitan Region had more than 800,000 inhabitants (IBGE/2020 data).

Planned by the company Companhia de Melhoramentos Norte do Paraná, on May 10, 1947, Maringá was a village and later a district of the municipality of Mandaguari, being elevated to the category of municipality by Law No. 790, of February 14, 1951, dismembering. from that municipality.

With an urban plan initially planned and modernist, by the urbanist Jorge Macedo Vieira, following Ebenezer Howard's principle of the garden city, it underwent rapid growth in the following decades. Even so, the municipality maintains high quality of life indices, preserving large areas of native forest in the urban perimeter, such as Horto Florestal, Parque dos Pioneiros (forest II) and Parque do Ingá, the latter being open to the public. It also includes smaller fragments such as the Cinquentenário Park, or private areas and a large network of valley bottom conservation areas.
