Today on Face to Face, Genevieve Kyle-Lefebvre is talking with Gloria and Dominic Cuccione about the extraordinary journey behind the Michael Cuccione Foundation, an organization their son Michael founded himself. During his own battle with childhood cancer, Michael was inspired to help others, and at just 11 years old, he launched the Foundation with a powerful mission to raise awareness and funds to end childhood cancer. Since 1998, the Foundation has raised an incredible $30 million, driven by Michael’s vision and his family’s enduring dedication.
The Cuccione Foundation has become a key player in the fight against pediatric cancer, directing millions of dollars to BC Children’s Hospital for groundbreaking cancer research and advanced treatments. Recently, the Foundation made a historic $3-million donation, helping to fund innovative clinical trials and therapies like CAR T-cell immune therapy. As Dominic explains, this donation offers not only crucial financial support but also hope for life-saving treatments for young patients.
Beyond funding research, the Foundation is committed to supporting the emotional well-being of pediatric patients. In collaboration with BC Children’s Hospital, they opened a new playroom in the Teck Acute Care Centre, providing a comforting space where young cancer patients can play and experience moments of normalcy during treatment. Gloria shares that this playroom has become a sanctuary for both children and families, bringing joy and relief amid difficult times.
Throughout the interview, Genevieve delves into the Foundation’s impact and its progress in advancing pediatric cancer treatments. Gloria and Dominic also share inspiring success stories from families whose lives have been changed through the Foundation, illustrating the tangible effects of Michael’s vision.
Community support remains vital to the Foundation’s mission, and the Cucciones invite people to get involved through donations, volunteering, or attending local events. Through these efforts, the Michael Cuccione Foundation carries forward Michael’s legacy, bringing hope and driving progress toward a future free from childhood cancer.Tri Cities Community TV is a group of volunteers in the region who are looking to support community video media and independant community news stories and sources.
