Vlad the Impaler, also known as Vlad III or Vlad Dracula, was a 15th-century ruler of Wallachia, a historical region of Romania. He is renowned for his brutal methods of punishing his enemies, particularly his practice of impalement, which earned him the moniker "Vlad the Impaler." Vlad's reputation for cruelty and his name inspired Bram Stoker's fictional character, Count Dracula.
