Audi has been busy refreshing its lineup with refreshed grilles and sharp, angular headlights and taillights for the 2021 model year, and the Q5 compact crossover is the latest to get the modernized look. The base model and plug-in hybrid also see a slight increase in power and some new standard tech.
The Q5's face has an attractive new look with the gloss black honeycomb grille and acute LED headlights with daytime running lights. The highest-level Prestige trim comes equipped with matrix-design LEDs that have on and off animations for the front and rear lights, while the SQ5's Prestige trim gets standard OLED lights with three animated signature options. The standard advanced line exterior package includes chrome strips on the grille and silver accents on the front and rear bumpers. It rides on 18-inch wheels on all-season tires or optional 20-inch wheels.
The plug-in hybrid has the S line exterior package as standard, which includes a sportier honeycomb grille and a chrome surround on the rear diffuser. It sits on 19-inch wheels on all-season tires or optional bicolor 20-inch wheels. The available Sport Plus package adds 20-inch 10-spoke wheels on summer tires. The plug-in hybrid, along with the SQ5, gets new Ultra Blue and District Green exterior colors.
As in the previous model year, the standard Q5 comes equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. However, it now makes 261 horsepower, an increase of 13 hp over the outgoing model. The plug-in hybrid, also powered by the 2.0-liter but paired with an electric motor, gets the same increase in power, to 362 horses. Both models are paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. The higher-performance SQ5 model is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that spins up 349 horsepower and is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It also comes standard with adaptive suspension and has optional air suspension, dynamic steering, and quad-tipped sport exhaust. The plug-in hybrid can be equipped with the adaptive air suspension with the optional Sport Plus package.
Walnut wood inlays are standard, although brushed aluminum is included in the Sport Plus package, as are leather seats with contrast stitching and gloss black interior trim. The Sport plus package also adds sports seats, S line leather, and a black headliner. Audi's MIB 3 infotainment system is displayed on a 10.1-inch touchscreen and allows for up to six individual driver profiles with standard wireless Apple CarPlay. Standard driver-assist features include lane-departure warning, parking assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control is standard on Premium Plus models.
The 2021 Audi Q5 will arrive in dealerships at the end of this year. Pricing starts at $44,295 for the standard Q5, $52,895 for the plug-in hybrid, and $53,895 for the SQ5.
