BYD’s premium brand, Yangwang, has introduced its new flagship sedan, the U7, at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. BYD claims the Yangwang U7 will achieve a world-leading drag coefficient of Cd 0.195, setting it apart as the most aerodynamically efficient mass-produced car globally.
The U7, the third model in the Yangwang lineup, brings a sleek and futuristic design. Its front end showcases C-shaped headlights reminiscent of the U9, paired with a flat, streamlined body. The front bumper adds a sporty touch, with a large air vent more suited to a supercar than a typical luxury sedan. The sloping hood integrates smoothly with the RoboSense LiDAR sensor, emphasizing the vehicle's advanced autonomous driving and safety features.
Sporty details continue along the body with carbon fiber skirts surrounding the car for improved performance. The flush, integrated door handles further enhance the U7’s aerodynamic profile. The side of the vehicle features stylish contours, while the lightweight alloy wheels are designed to reduce air resistance, boosting both efficiency and performance.
At the rear, a full-width taillight design complements the Yangwang logo, with a sporty black diffuser adding a bold look. Chrome accents along the lower bumper provide a refined contrast. Yangwang's meticulous design is focused on achieving the U7’s incredibly low drag coefficient, which stands at Cd 0.195.
The U7’s dimensions emphasize its flagship status, measuring 5,265 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,517 mm in height, with a long 3,160 mm wheelbase ensuring ample interior space and a stable driving experience.
The U7 is built on BYD's advanced e4 platform and features cutting-edge driving assistance technology similar to that of the U9 model. The car is equipped with the TianShen system, integrating a 5 mm-wave radar, three LiDAR sensors, and 13 cameras. A powerful computer with 508 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) enables enhanced autonomous driving capabilities and superior safety.
In terms of performance, the U7 is powered by four electric motors, each delivering 326 horsepower, for a total output of 1,306 horsepower. Despite its hefty curb weight of 3.095 tonnes, the U7 can reach a top speed of 270 km/h. It’s equipped with a 135.5 kWh blade battery pack, offering a driving range of up to 800 km on a single charge. The car also features BYD’s latest DiSus-Z suspension system for improved ride comfort and handling.
BYD is preparing to launch the Yangwang U7 in China over the next few months, with pricing details expected to be revealed at its showroom debut.
