The Worcester Southern Bypass starts at junction 6 of the M5 and links with the A449 and A4527.
Built in the late 1980’s the bypass has needed upgrading for several years with road access, traffic congestion and air pollution being an issue for 30,000 regular highway users each week and holiday makers alike, with the strategic employers saying the current road system is a barrier to economic growth of the area.
Work started in 2019, with Alun Griffiths named as the Principle Infrastructure Contractor, by Worcestershire County Council, who has awarded them several major projects in the area.
These included the Southern Link Road, the Hoobrook Link Road, the Eastham Bridge, Battenhall Railway Bridge, Cannington Bridge and several footbridges, including the Hams Way footbridge, which was joint winner of the Bridges Design Award recently.
Having realised the benefits of Marshalls Redi-Rock walling before, Alun Griffiths chose to use the retaining wall solution on Phase 4 of the project, due to the tight timelines, along with the necessity of a sustainable, long-term, quality approved solution that will look great for years to come as well as keeping the area safe for the public and highway users.
