In this video I explain which direction the ceiling fan should rotate to help with summer heat to achieve windchill.
Which direction should a ceiling fan turn?
For summer you want to achieve a windchill effect by flipping the switch on the fan (sometimes the switch goes up/down, sometimes left/right) to make the fan rotate counterclockwise (to the left if looking up at the fan), which will force the air downward. Windchill can lower the temperature about 5-10 degrees, saving you money on air conditioning bills since you won't have to run the ac unit as much.
In the winter it is the opposite. In the winter you want the hot air to be pulled upward and redistributed in the room by being pulled against the ceiling and the walls. The way you do that is flip the switch on the fan to make it rotate clockwise (to the right if looking up at the fan), which will pull the air upward.
