Good morning and welcome to the celebration of the Holy Mass for Monday of the 3rd Week of Advent.
Our First Reading from Numbers speaks of a star that will come out of Jacob. The advent of our Lord into our lives is coming soon., In our Gospel, the chief priests and the elders of the people question Jesus' authority. They are so concerned that Jesus will take authority and power away from them that they do not recognize the one who is in their midst. Jesus came to bring salvation to all and they fail to see this. All Jesus wants is to take away the cloud of suffering and sorrow and offer to his people a new Jerusualem -- one of peace and joy.
The star is in our midst. Do we recognize who the star is? Are we interested in following Jesus, who is the way, the truth and the life or are we interested in building up our own prestige and power? Let us proclaim with the psalmist: "Make me know your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths".
