North Korea says it will halt its nuclear and missile tests... and shut down its nuclear test sites to prove that. At the ruling party's policy gathering on Friday,... the North declared an end to its nuclear development... and laid out a new focus: building a socialist economy. The surprise announcement comes ahead of Pyongyang's summits with South Korea and the U.S. Oh Jung-hee starts us off. North Korea says it won't conduct nuclear and missile tests from now on... and will close its nuclear test sites... simply because there's NO NEED. The regime assessed it has (quote)"perfectly accomplished" developing a state nuclear force,... and declared... it will, from now on, focus on the economy. The major policy shift was made at the ruling Workers' Party's policy gathering on Friday. At the meeting, Kim Jong-un declared a 'victory' on his signature Byongjin policy adopted five years ago,... which sought for economic and nuclear weapons development. Saying an atmosphere of peace is being formed on the Korean Peninsula thanks to Pyongyang's initiatives... and as the regime already has enough capability to defend itself,... Kim said... North Korea will halt its nuclear program and contribute to building a world free of nuclear weapons. The Workers' Party adopted a resolution that stipulates... Pyongyang won't conduct nuclear or ICBM tests starting Saturday... and to prove that, it will close down its northern nuclear test ground. "He said no nuclear tests or intermediate-range and inter-continental ballistic rocket tests are necessary now. Thus, the mission of the northern nuclear test ground has come to an end." Nuclear weapons or technology won't be used or transferred unless the regime faces a threat. The regime also expressed its willingness to keep in close contact with nearby countries. The North's ruling party adopted another resolution on building a socialist economy... and vowed it will achieve modernization and economic self-realization through scientific research and education. South Korea's presidential office welcomed the North's decision to shut down its nuclear test sites and halt missile tests. It said it's an important step in achieving denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula... and will contribute greatly to upcoming inter-Korean and Washington-Pyongyang summits.
