Botallack mine has been reconstructed using the best available archaeological data. The 3D reconstruction's development facilitated new discoveries and understanding of the site.
I created the assets, textures, environment and soundscape (excluding the male miner models). I interpreted archaeological data (photographs and ordinance surveys). Modelling the site in 3D helped to established the accuracy of a given interpretation whilst also inspiring new interpretations.
The 3d real-time rendered environment was developed and optimised to run on mobile devices.
The scene was rendered and programmed using Unity 3D and it's universal render pipeline. All objects (excluding humans, terrain and ocean) use one or two 2k texture atlases. The terrain is a custom vertex painted shader and the ocean is a custom shader; both I created using Unity's shader graph.
