Join me as I explore the stunning Wakan Village, a hidden gem in the Western Hajar Mountains of Oman. Wakan Village is a small mountain village with beautiful terraced gardens overlooking the surrounding mountains and Wadi Mistal below. It is located at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level and has a pleasant climate all year round.

I drove from Muscat to Nakhal, where I took the turn to Wadi Mistal and followed the unpaved road for about 5 km until I reached the village. The drive was challenging but rewarding, as I enjoyed the scenic views of the wadi and the mountains along the way. I parked the car at the entrance of the village and walked through the narrow alleys and stone houses to reach the viewing platform, which offered a spectacular panorama of the area.

I decided to set up the camp near the border of the village and prepared for a cozy night under the stars. I lit a fire, cooked some food and enjoyed the sound of the atmosphere. I also watched the sunset and the moonrise, which were both magical.

The next day, I went inside the village and followed the hiking trail that goes through the village and up to the watch tower at the top. The trail was marked by yellow, green and red flags and consisted of 700 steps across the terraced gardens and along a falaj stream. I was amazed by the variety of fruits and flowers that grow in the village, such as pomegranates, apricots, grapes, roses and lavender. I also met some friendly villagers who greeted us and invited us to try some of their produce.

I had a peaceful and relaxing night at Wakan Village and woke up to the sound of birds and the smell of fresh air. I then drove back to Muscat, feeling refreshed and inspired by the camping night experience at Wakan Village.
