(16 Mar 2019) French yellow vest protesters set newsstands in Paris on fire on Saturday during the 18th straight weekend of demonstrations against President Emmanuel Macron.
The burning kiosks sent plumes of thick black smoke into the sky, forcing groups of demonstrators to disperse.
The fires were started after yellow vests clashed with riot police near the Arc de Triomphe and vandalised luxury stores.
The violence first began when protesters threw smoke bombs and other objects at officers along the Champs-Elysees - scene of repeated past rioting - and started pounding on the windows of a police van.
Police used tear gas and a water cannon in response.
