4th visit to Finsbury Park although 1st time covering the East Coast Main Line, 2nd time covering the Victoria Line 1st since August 2018 and 3rd time covering the Piccadilly Line since May 2023
Featuring services from LNER, Thameslink, Great Northern, Grand Central, LUMO, Hull Trains and some freight plus both London Underground Piccadilly and Victoria Lines.
Finsbury Park was opened in 1861 by the former Great Northern Railway with its name coming from the nearby Finsbury Park which is one of the Victorian Parks which opened 8 years later in 1869.
in 1867 a branch line to Edgware which was first built by the Edgware, Highgate and London Railway was opened however the company was taken over by the GNR just before opening.
Today a mixture of Great Northern services to and from Moorgate which are provided by Class 717s which took over the Class 313s in October 2019 to Welwyn Garden City via Hatfield and Stevenage via Hertford North.
Thameslink services also call here with services to and from Peterborough and Cambridge to Horsham and Brighton operated by Class 700s which run via the Canal Tunnels into the Low level platforms of London St Pancras.
Class 387 Electrostars mainly provide London Kings Cross to Cambridge, Ely and Kings Lynn which also can provide a semi fast service to Letchworth Garden City and Cambridge.
Class 379s are due to enter service on Great Northern in Late 2024
The Intercity services run non stop through Platforms 4 and 5 with LNER services mainly provided by Class 800 and 801 Azumas as well as a few Class 91 sets with the latter due to be replaced from 2027 onwards
Hull Trains operated by Class 802 Paragons to and from Hull with a occasional 1 service a day to Beverley
Grand Central operated by Class 180s Adelantes and 2 Class 221 Voyagers to Bradford Interchange via Wakefield Kirkgate and Sunderland via Hartlepool
Lumo operated by Class 803s which began running in October 2021 provide 5 return services a day from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh although at the time of filming aiming to expand their services to Glasgow Queen Street with stops at Haymarket and Falkirk High as well as operations on WCML between London Euston and Rochdale via Newton-le-Willows and Manchester Victoria which is subject to review by ORR.
Whilst on the East Coast Main Line is full of activity so is below ground.
The first underground line was actually the Great Northern & City Railway from Moorgate which opened in February 1904
The Great Northern, Piccadilly and Brompton Railway now todays Piccadilly Line was next to open in December 1906 by David Lloyd George
which was financed by Charles Tyson Yerkes who died a year before completion age 68 from Lung Disease.
Extension Northwards was opposed at the time however as capacity became intolerable by the 1930s an extension of the Piccadilly was extended to Arnos Grove in September 1932 with Cockfosters being the Piccadilly Lines Northern Terminus opening 10 months later in July 1933.
In the 1960s a new underground line was built being todays Victoria Line which took over both former GNR platforms to provide cross platform interchange.
To enable the works to be carried in October 1964 the Northern City Line was cut back to Drayton Park which at the time was part of Northern Line (Highbury Branch) owned by London Transport from 1939 to 1975 before being taken over by British Rail in 1976 which was when services to Finsbury Park were restored.
Victoria Line services from Walthamstow Central opened here on September 1st 1968 as the first section to Highbury & Islington which nowadays run to Brixton operated by 2009 stock which took over the 1967 stock in July 2010.
Piccadilly Line trains are operated by 1973 Stock first began running in 1975 however at the time of filming they are on borrowed time and are due to be replaced by new Tube Stock between 2025 and 2027 being built by Siemens in Vienna, Austria and Goole, East Yorkshire.
The station building dates from 2019 replacing a former 1970s building with step free access to all mainline and underground platforms with the underground step free access being completed in April 2019 whilst the mainline platforms was completed in April 2023.
