I spent a weekend in Japan's sunniest prefecture. While in Okayama, I enjoyed some of the region's top sites such as Okayama castle, Korakuen, Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, and the beautiful Kibi Plains. I've always wanted to go to Venice, Italy but it's expensive and crowded. Kurashiki Bikan, Japan's very own Venice, is a great alternative. Few foreign tourists know of this hidden place in Okayama so when visiting large crowds will not be an issue. However, my favorite part of my trip to Okayama was riding through the Kibi plains. The 17km bike route may seem intimidating but it was actually quite an easy and highly enjoyable ride. I loved biking through the rice fields and small neighborhoods. Also, the Kibitsuhiko shrine, though quite small, is probably one of the more interesting shrines I've visited because of the long outdoor hall.
