If there is one figure in Polish history that stands out above the others, it must be Adam Mickiewicz, the 19th century poet-prophet of Poland. While ostensibly only a literary figure, his influence was titanic. It was his books of prose and of poetry that helped keep Poland alive during the time of the Partitions. The realism, earthiness, and inherent Polishness of his "Pan Tadeusz" caused exiles who had not seen Poland in years to weep from memory and longing when they read the first lines.
This video gives you a brief overview of this poet's life and works, and ends in a short analysis of his works by a literary professor of the early 20th century.
I hope you enjoy discovering this poet.
Thank you.
