Today we are talking about medical aids vs health insurance policies. Which one do you prefer and why?
Consumers will no longer be able to purchase the primary healthcare insurance policy as from 1 April 2017. This is according to a new regulation instituted by the Department of Health and the National Treasury.
Currently consumers who do not want medical aids can buy primary healthcare insurance policies to pay for general practitioner visits, acute and chronic medication, emergency medical care, dentistry and optometry. However, the downside of this policy is that it provides limited medical service benefits which put the consumer at a disadvantage for services not covered. This policy is common in employee groups and bargaining councils.
