Are you looking for some fun things to do in Central Florida away from the hustle and bustle of Orlando?

Today we bring you 5 family-friendly activities in Clermont, an award-winning city that recently made it on Travel + Leisure's 15 Best Lake Towns in America, and is only located about 20 miles west of Orlando.

What we loved was that everything is located close to each other, so you can keep the kids entertained with several activities in just one day's time.

1. Waterfront Park Fishing Pier
Take a walk out on the fishing pier and tell your kids to keep an eye out for fish and turtles.
Waterfront Park is located along Lake Minneola, between East Avenue and Eighth Street.

The park is home to frequent festivals, so chances are that you will be able to join in on the fun if you visit on the weekend. Some of the more famous events include Pig on the Pond, and a host of triathlons and new water competitions, such as the Champions’ Dragon Boat Festival and Leader of the Lake Regatta.

2. White Sand Lake Beach
Also located at Waterfront Park you can take a walk on the white sandy beach or take a dip in Lake Minneola while watching some of the many boats pass by.

3. Champions Splash Park
Located in the Waterfront Park, it offers a variety of jets and water activities for little ones and covered seating for those accompanying them.
It is open from March through October and admission costs only $2 per person. Parking is free.

4. Florida Citrus Tower
Standing 226-feet-tall, the Citrus Tower was built in 1956 as a tribute to Central Florida's citrusy heritage and its lush subtropical groves. Take an elevator up to the observation deck and catch panoramic views of the Orlando skyline. On a clear day you can see for as far as 30 miles, a view spanning eight different counties.

5. Historic Downtown
Where do we start? Take a stroll through the historic streets, enjoy live music by locals, get some fresh fruit from the farmers market, and end your day with some cultural cuisine and a breathtaking view of the sunset at Lake Minneola's waterfront.
For the kids, there is a cute frozen yogurt shop, Yummis Frozen Yogurt and Cafe, that offers a refreshing snack on a hot summer day. We stopped here for some frozen yogurt and the kiddos loved it!

The City of Clermont has something for everyone: Fishing piers, playgrounds, picnic areas, a scenic boardwalk, walking trails, a splash pad, a white sandy beach, and a host of events throughout the year.
