(25 Jun 2015) The Serbian and Greek foreign ministers met in the Serbian capital, Belgrade on Thursday to discuss the growing problem of illegal migration hitting Balkan countries.
Thousand of migrants and refugees from the Middle East and Africa have been making their way through the Balkans towards the EU Schengen free travel zone.
Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias said the EU needs to do more to solve the issue in order to prevent increased xenophobia in the region.
The meeting of the two ministers comes days after Hungary decided to build a temporary fence on the border with Serbia to stop the flow of illegal migrants.
Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said he was "absolutely and fiercely against their (Hungary's) decision to build a fence."
Hungary has seen a sharp rise in the influx of migrants, with over 60,000 migrants from the Middle East and Africa entering the EU-member country this year, the majority by crossing its southern border with Serbia and using the route across the Balkans.
