The University of Nairobi has been closed indefinitely following two days of rioting by students angered by the alleged killing of two of their colleagues by the police. One student died in police custody while another was shot dead in the subsequent protests. The University Senate arrived at the decision as students went on the rampage in the city on Sunday. The inspector general of police David Kimaiyo has condemned the violence by the students but promised that police will thoroughly investigate circumstances under which a university student died while in police custody and take action against any officer found to have had a hand in the suspicious death. Chris Wang'ombe reports.
