Day 12 at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM.
July 6, 2014
Today, our last day: Zaastrow to Rayodo Turnaround for a 3:15 bus pickup
Last day for Mr. Powell and I to torment Noah with the "I'm so excited" song and the "pull my finger" prank.
At Rayado, we toured the 1860s hacienda owned by Kit Carson and the Kit Carson Museum next door.
We also did some blacksmithing, everyone getting a chance to turn the blower and hammer on the anvil.
Serendipitously, at base camp, we ran into the other Troop 807 crew checking in our gear. Jake was especially excited to see us (and be back to civilization).
After showers, we took the Philmont bus into Cimarron to have a civilized snack, do some knife shopping and get reacclimatized to life in the real world (clean clothes, traffic, money, etc.)
I don't think I took any photos of the Philmont mess hall, but I think we had left-over July 4 cupcakes for the lunch dessert.
Closing ceremony (check)
One more night in tent city (check)
Load up on the Circle 10 bus and head to Dallas, with a stop at Golden Corral for lunch. (check)
Perry, the crew leader, passes out the Philmont Arrowhead patch (check)
This was a good trip from start to finish.
