Pope Francis praised the work and sacrifice of thousands of health workers at the frontline of the coronavirus outbreak as cases balloon around the world, prompting more lockdown measures to try to slow the spread.
Due to restrictions on movement that were introduced on March 14, and which prevent Spaniards from leaving their houses for all but essential trips, the interview, conducted by Spanish journalist Jordi Evole, was carried out by video call.
