Part 1 of recorded video of sounds of an engine failure in a 2016 Hyundai Tucson SUV. This is a 1.6L 4cyl engine with 80k miles on it that also had regular oil changes at intervals of 4k to 6k miles between (longer intervals consistent with COVID period). Dipstick was examined, no traces of sludge or grit found. Very little oil observed on dipstick, almost "clean" dipstick. Dipstick smelled like burnt plastic, not like burnt oil. No signs of oil sludge found on exterior of engine. No warning lights visible on dash with engine on. Mechanic examination did not indicate a sludge issue; statement made that engine failure has come up frequently with these engines.
Issue noted is similar to what was noted in legal complaints that resulted in a mass recall of Kia and Hyundai engines. Oil is not getting to major components of the engine causing engine seizure and failure, without warning. Same engine as listed in previous recalls, but this VIN was not included in recall. Engine still under warranty, dealership attempting to have warranty claim denied via shift to at fault due to poor maintenance and use, by "appears to be sludge issue."
