Mahi-mahi, a highly appreciated food fish common to most of the world’s warm and temperate seas, is an important catch for artisanal fishers in the Dominican Republic.

"When we have a good catch, we aren't able to sell it all," says José Tejada Dumé. This is the main challenge to increase their revenue. FISH4ACP helps, while ensuring that economic growth goes hand in hand with environmental sustainability and social inclusiveness.

"I wish I could be my own boss, “José says. “To buy the fish and market it ourselves. And one day have one of those big shops like those you see on TV."

FISH4ACP works to strengthen fisheries and aquaculture in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. It is led by the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States and implemented by FAO with funding from the European Union.
