A man rescuing a seal with a gasket ring stuck around its neck had a close call when the animal attempted to bite him – in the groin. The potentially painful injury was narrowly averted when Naude Dreyer, a kayak guide in Walvis Bay, Namibia, leapt backwards in the nick of time, leaving the seal to nip his inside leg. Had the bite landed millimetres to the right, it could have ended much worse. The incident occurred after Naude spotted the stricken seal among a herd on a beach and upon closer inspection noticed it had a plastic ring firmly stuck around its neck. The plastic gasket ring had become so tight it was digging in to the seal, causing it distress. Being a nature and animal lover, Naude immediately sprung into action filming the events on his body attached GoPro. After successfully catching the seal, he straddled it while wrestling the gasket ring off its neck. But with both hands firmly on the plastic ring, it meant the moment he freed the seal it lashed out, out of fear – almost biting his nether regions.
