Intro:
Defending the cargo ships in the harbor against the attacks of the British units that start on map is not too hard. Then there is the problem of the British submarine that unloads Commandos if it reaches the harbor at the end of turn 7. Even if severely damaged the submarine will unload the full complement of 6 Commandos.
The Commandos units are very strong in Ultimate with 300 xp and a boss leader. So If you keep units around the harbor for defense and start hunting the Commandos on turn 8 you might not have the time to capture the objectives in the north of the map by turn 13. Moreover they can easily damage you units as they pop up randomly and attack out of nowhere on turn 8. This is a bleak prospect.
So I will simplify this issue by destroying the submarine before it reaches the harbor. Tactical bombers are capable of damaging submarines and uber Rudel is more than up for the job. Be aware though that submarines have a 50% chance of evading any attacks. With this threat removed I can push north confidently.
However as prestige is so rare in GC West I’d like to let the British drive south first to capture some flags that I can then recapture. Especially with the Soft Cap at 73% this should give a decent amount of extra prestige. Then the challenge now becomes how much turns I am ready to let them attack before starting my own counter-attack north, taking into account that the final enemies in the north will have ample time to entrench and that the rugged bocage terrain will significantly slow me down.
