IARC Perspective on Oral Cancer Prevention - As the 16th most common cancer worldwide, oral cancer is a significant health concern. Health professionals can play a critical role in preventing and managing this disease. Smoking, areca nut use (with and without tobacco), and heavy alcohol consumption are significant risk factors. Behavioral interventions can help adults quit smokeless tobacco. In addition, screening high-risk individuals through clinical oral examination can reduce mortality rates.
In this session, health professionals can learn about prevention, early detection, and effective cessation strategies to better equip themselves to identify and manage oral cancer in their patients.
