"So we suffered heavy casualties. We made tremendous efforts to fight terror. A very complicated thing because terrorists are living among the civilian population. But we managed to have great achievements. Now is the question - did we win this target or not? Talking about winning, as I said no doubt we had tremendous achievements, but talking about winning I would say we will win this war when we have peace. Reaching peace, that would be I would say, the real victory over terror."

6. SOUNDBITE: (English) Ariel Sharon, Israeli Prime Minister:
"We are negotiating now with the Palestinians. Myself, I am I am conducting these negotiations on our side. Myself, I am fully committed to make every effort to reach peace. That's not a very easy thing, it's complicated. We speak about the conflict that has lasted now over 120 years. But I believe that there are hopes now. There are also many dangers. But there are hopes now that they will come and we will be able first to have a political process and then from there to move to peace negotiations."
