Summer’s awesome. Flies are not. In addition to good farm sanitation practices, stable and barn management and manure management, I use fly predators to keep the fly population in check.
Fly predators are tiny wasps that lay their eggs into the larvae of stable and house flies, resulting in death of the fly before they start. The females also eat fly larvae. These little parasitic wasps are not harmful to humans, animals, etc. Truly, you don’t know they’re there since they’re the size of a fruit fly. You can go online and find out how many fly predators to spread based on the size of your farm, animals you keep, and the moisture in your environment due to weather and terrain.
I’ve used them for over a year now with great success. I’m on a subscription plan and sprinkle a small amount through stables, coops and pasture manure areas about once a month, spring to fall. I use Spalding-Labs.com. Have you tried them?
