The remainder of the 5,500 soldiers crossed into Kuwait on Sunday, ending nearly nine years of American military presence in Iraq since the war that toppled former leader Saddam Hussein.
However, America continues to maintain a high presence in the country with the largest US embassy in the world located in the capital, Baghdad, with 15,000 members of staff.
