The springs in the area of ​​​​the Római Strandfürdő played a very important role as early as 11 BC. It was then that the strategically important settlement of Aquincum began to be built on the border of the Roman Empire, along with many other military camps and settlements. The aquaeductus transported water from the springs feeding the pools of today's Római Strandfürdő to a distance of about 5 km to the south for the civil city of Aquincum, Aquincum-canabae and the military camps of Aquincum, from 14 currently known sources. Today, the springs used by the Romans emerge from the rocks in underground springs: they are sealed off under manhole covers visible in several places on the beach, from where they feed the pools.
