The Young and the Restless is serving up high-stakes drama as Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) seems to be abandoning his family in favor of defending Sharon Newman (Sharon Case), much to the dismay of his daughter, Summer Newman (Allison Lanier). Summer is dealing with the impending criminal trial of her mother, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), who was brutally framed for the murder of Heather Stevens (Vail Bloom) by Sharon. Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) is tasked with arresting Sharon, and Michael Baldwin (Christian Jules Leblanc) is diligently working to secure her bail on the CBS soap opera.

Young and Restless sees Nick's focus on Sharon's legal woes is causing him to neglect his responsibilities to his family, especially Summer and Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei), who are left terrified as Phyllis battles a life-threatening brain injury from a car crash. The accident, which occurred on the day of Abby Newman's (Melissa Ordway) wedding, is believed to be a deliberate act by Sharon. Summer is left terrified as her mother remains unconscious and, in her eyes, her father is failing her when she needs him most.
