Why are oranges called Chinas in Puerto Rico? We went to the El Festival de la China Dulce in Las Marias, Puerto Rico to find out.
Las Marias is a small town in the mountains of the west side of the island. At the festival, we tried Mavi a traditional fermented beverage of Puerto Rico made with the bark of the Mavi tree.
We talk about fair foods in Puerto Rico like Bacalaitos, alcapurrias, pinchos, arañitas, tostones and more. You’ll also see a variety of local oranges and orange products, from frappes, sponge cakes (bizcocho), cookies, jam, and more.
