With the possibility looming that the Boston Public School system could soon be put under state receivership, and troubling developments such as reports of bullying rising 80% in the district and the decision to close the Mission Hill school after a damning report and rampant bullying and physical and sexual abuse among students there, it is clear that the BPS issues are many. And while state and local officials all agree that big problems require big solutions, there is less consensus when it comes to who should make those fixes. While some argue state receivership is the answer, others, including Mayor Michelle Wu, believe that change should be driven by leaders within the city and schools. GBH K-12 Education Reporter Meg Woolhouse joined Talking Politics Host Adam Reilly to discuss the current issues and overall future of BPS.
Plus, with the Massachusetts Democratic Convention underway, Boston Globe State House Reporter Matt Stout and former Business Journal Digital Editor Steph Solis joined Adam to talk about who is likely make it on the ballot and what their endorsements could mean for the future of the state Democratic party.
