In this video I demonstrate how I trim a crepe myrtle tree that has overgrown. I normally try to trim Crepe Myrtles every two years but these tress went several years without pruning and needed a dramatic cut back. So I created this video to show how I drastically cut the Myrtle trees back using pruning loppers and a hand tree saw.

Crepe Myrtles are very hardy trees that seem to be able to handle aggressive pruning without just fine. Many people cut the Crepe Myrtles back down to the stumps every year which I think is too dramatic but the trees seem to be able to handle it. I prefer to leave much of the base branching when I trim. I feel this is healthier for the tree and looks much better when the plant is in bloom.
