Yangon boasts a rich cultural heritage that includes ancient Buddhist religious structures and colonial buildings. Among these historical treasures are the Ngar Htat Gyi Pagoda, Chout Htat Gyi Pagoda, and Koe Htat Gyi Pagoda, which are the focus of this video, exploring their history and notable features.
Ngar Htat Gyi Pagoda is situated amidst a small forest on a hill, approximately one mile from the Shwe Dagon Pagoda, along Shwe Gon Daing Road in the Bahan township of Yangon Region. This pagoda houses a seated Buddha image adorned with an ornate headdress, bearing the title of Maha Thakya Atula Marn Aung.
The construction of the Chout Htat Gyi Shwe Thar Hlaung reclining Buddha Image began in 1907 and was completed in 1912. Sir U Boe Thar, a rice broker, acquired 4.25 acres of land from his friend, U Boe Aung, for the sum of 14,200 Kyats at that time. He undertook the construction of the Chout Htat Gyi reclining Buddha Image, located 500 yards from the Ngar Htat Gyi Buddha Image. This Buddha Image is known as Chout Htat Gyi, meaning "Six-storey pagoda," due to its location on a hill with six elevated tiers. The appearance of the Chout Htat Gyi Buddha Image that we see today is not its original form.
The Koe Htat Gyi Buddha Image is a seated Buddha Image located within the Bagay Monastery in Sanchaung Township of Yangon Region. Construction of this Buddha Image commenced on August 9, 1905. It bears the title of Atula Dipadi Maha Muni Thakya Koe Htat Gyi Buddha Image, with the initial donors being U Kyi and Daw Ngwe Zan. The Buddha Image was later restored by the wealthy individual, U Kyaw, who was the only son of U Kyin and Daw Ngwe Zan, along with his wife, Daw Hla Gyi.
